Providing safe and cost effective primary, acute and aged care services to resident of the Portland district.

Portland District Health services the Glenelg Shire with major population centres being the city of Portland and the townships of Heywood, Narrawong, Tyrendarra and Nelson. The population which we service is approximately 16,739.

Our vision is that Portland District Health will deliver excellence in health services through continually challenging ourselves to do better and creatively meeting the needs of the community by listening, living and working together.

Our Volunteers

Volunteers play a vital role within Portland District Health.

At present we have 166 registered volunteers with Portland District Health averaging a combined total of 745 hours per month through various programs that assist the patients, clients, residents and staff.

There are many areas that use volunteers to enhance their programs.

PDH is top CaT

PORTLAND District Health has this week welcomed a new sonographer to the medical imaging team and unveiled two state-of-the-art pieces of imaging equipment worth about half a million dollars. The equipment upgrade was able to go ahead after a bequest to PDH by the late Glenys Simmons. “I take this opportunity to pay special thanks to the estate of the late Glenys Simmons. The great generosity of Mrs Simmons has provided much needed funds for the purchase of clinical equipment,” PDH acting board president Bill Collett said at the unveiling to staff on Wednesday evening.

The PDH board of management approved the upgrade in July for the department, with the purchase of a new 16-slice Philips computerised tomography (CT) machine and a colour Doppler ultrasound machine.
