PDH To Host Cancer Wellbeing Forum - 20 Feb 2018

Wednesday, 31 January 2018
People touched by cancer can share their experiences and learn about support services at an upcoming forum in Portland.

Portland District Health will host the cancer wellbeing forum on February 20 from 9am-3pm at the Portland Golf Club.

A previous forum in 2016 organised by PDH cancer support nurse Brooke Kelly was a success with 55 people attending. Some people travelled from Mount Gambier and Warrnambool with very positive feedback, Ms Kelly said.

;There was obviously a big need for this type of education in the region so we decided to run another forum, she added.

The forum is open to anyone with an interest in knowing more about cancer and it costs just $10 including lunch and morning tea provided by the golf club.

During the one day event, Ms Kelly will outline services available locally for people touched by cancer.

PDH psychologist Lauren Yuill will give advice on resilience and looking after yourself, clinical nurse consultant Joanna Spurge will speak on advanced care planning and dietitian, Alecia Watson will discuss nutrition.

Heather Cameron from Barwon South West Regional Integrated Cancer Service will outline what cancer services are available across the region and there will be relaxation and exercise sessions.

Cancer survivor Simone Bannam will share her story and Dr Emma Greenwood will cover symptom management and quality of life.

The forum is being supported by PDH, Beats Cycle for Hope, Arbonne and Rotary Club of Portland.
