Portland District Health on behalf of the Minister for Health, the Hon Jill Hennessy MP, is pleased to invite applications for part-time board positions (voluntary), with terms of office commencing from 1 July 2016. We are currently seeking the appointment of new board members with great enthusiasm, drive and a passion for health in the Portland community.

The Board of Management is responsible to the Minister for Health for setting the strategic direction of Portland District Health, within the framework of government policy. Board Members are accountable for ensuring that the services:

  • are efficiently and effectively managed;
  • provide high quality care and service delivery;
  • meet the needs of the community; and
  • meet performance targets

Portland District Health has an annual budget of approximately $35 million and employs over 400 staff with over 40 visiting specialist using our facilities. Portland District Health is an integrating health services and actively engages with the local community to promote health and wellbeing.

Board Members are expected to develop a full understanding of the organisation's Performance in the areas of quality, collaboration, finance, management and service delivery needs.Applicants should have expertise in the area of business management, health service provision, community engagement, financial management, law, business or appropriate discipline and a desire to become actively involved in contributing to the local health services.

The Board of Management's primary function is to oversee the governance of Portland District Health and the Board is committed to ensuring that the services provided by Portland District Health comply with the requirements of the Health Services Act 1988 and the objectives, vision and mission of the service.

The Board can consist of up to 12 members appointed by the Governor-in-Council on the advice of the Minister for Health following nominations received by Portland District Health.  Each member is appointed for up to a three-year term and is eligible for re-nomination when the term ends.

The Victorian Government is committed to ensuring that government boards and committees reflect the composition of the Victorian community. This includes appropriate representation of women, indigenous Victorians, young Victorians, Victorians living with a disability and Victoria's culturally diverse community.

Portland District Health's Board of Management meets monthly (last Thursday of each month @ 5.30pm), throughout the year with board members are expected to participate in at least one sub-committee of Portland District Health.

This is an exciting time to be involved with Portland District Health as it develops a new three year strategic plan.
