The 2015 Portland `Wish Upon a Star Ball’ on Saturday, February 7 will now be raising funds for two important local health initiatives.

As previously announced, the 2015 ball will be a fund-raiser for the onsite emergency helipad at Portland District Health.

The ball will also raise money for the development of a new women's and children's health precinct at PDH.

The ball on the Portland foreshore has become one of the social highlights of the year and has raised many thousands of dollars for children over the past 13 years.

The 2015 event is being conducted by the same organising committee as in the past.

Current table holders need to purchase their tickets by January 23. At time of purchase, all tickets on tables need to be paid in full. Payments are to be made at Portland District Health main reception. Wristbands will be available for collection with payment of tickets.

Tickets for the ball are $170 per person which includes entertainment, meal and drinks as in past years.

PDH CEO Chris Giles said that while the Blue Ribbon Foundation had committed $100,000 towards the helipad, a further $50,000 was needed to complete finish the project.

The emergency helicopter completes about three transfers per month. By having the permanent onsite helipad it facilitates the quick transfer of critically ill patients to receive further comprehensive care that is outside the scope of Portland District Health, Ms Giles said.

The funds raised will also go towards the development of a women's and children's health precinct on the second floor in north ward. This facility will be a dedicated area for the provision of women's and children's healthcare and will include a birth room, neonatal nursery and children's room, Ms Giles said.

A market will be held on the foreshore the day of the ball. Free entertainment during the day will be provided by Melbourne cover band 80's R Us, along with children's entertainers Micmacs.
