General
Thursday, 3 November 2016
Come along and celebrate PDH's achievements during the 2015-16 Financial year

Guest Speaker is Prof Steven Allender, Director of Deakin University’s WHO Collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention.

The Portland community is being challenged to improve what is already being described as a world-leading campaign to improve the health of local children.

Professor Allender will speak about the Portland SEA Change initiative and its campaign to reduce childhood obesity and how more people could join the cause.

“Portland is leading the world it its response in improving the health of children,” he said.

“Portland District Health is one of those leaders but the whole community is getting behind SEA Change, including Wannon Water, the Primary Care Partnership and many others.

“There is a big opportunity to improve the health of our children by making the healthy choice the easy choice for diet and physical activity.”

Professor Allender, who has an ongoing program of research on the burden of disease and obesity prevention, said he would call on the Portland community to continue to lead the rest of the world in improving the health of children.

“I’m excited to hear more about how Portland is changing the future of young people,” he said. “The leadership of Portland is already making major steps to improve the health of their kids, it’s now time to broaden and intensify that effort.”

The AGM will be held at the Portland Arts Centre at the corner of Bentinck and Glenelg Streets from 6.30pm on 10 November 2016
