PDH Harbourside Lodge

For nearly three years Meurriel Marsh has called Harbourside Lodge home.

Meurriel is one of 25 permanent aged residents currently living in Portland District Health's 30-bed high level care facility.

Ninety-year-old Meurriel moved into Harbourside Lodge in February 2011 and says she enjoys the friendships and the care.

It is lovely here,” she said. “I have made quite a few friends.

The caring staff at Harbourside Lodge love to pamper Meurriel, particularly doing her nails.

The carers are very good to me, she said. They like to make a bit of a fuss over me.

Before moving to Portland Meurriel worked in the stocktaking department of Myer in Melbourne and also travelled extensively around Australia.

She lived at Sea View House before moving into the high level care of Harbourside Lodge.

Meurriel enjoys the facilities and although she doesn't take part in many activities these days she appreciates the atmosphere.

In her younger years, Meurriel loved music, particularly old-time dancing, and also enjoyed reading romantic novels, playing tennis and golf, and watching animals on television.

She continues to enjoy the big screen televisions at Harbourside Lodge.

Meurriel also appreciates the quietness of the facility. Sometimes I don't want to mix much and that is fine. It's a good place to sleep and the meals are good too.

Harbourside Lodge currently has five vacancies and is also able to accept residents for short-term respite care.

Harbourside Lodge has a bright and welcoming environment, with many windows offering garden, courtyard or sea views.

The large multipurpose room gives residents with an area where they can participate in activities, watch TV/movies or use the computer, which is connected to the internet.

Residents are actively involved in decision making and have been instrumental in participating in many quality improvement activities.

If anyone would like to inspect the facilities or discuss potential care options they can contact 5521 0300.
