Last Christmas staff and visitors at Portland District Health donated more than 100 presents for needy local families through a wishing tree program.

This year PDH hopes to surpass that record and is encouraging the community to support the campaign.

The health service hosted the K-mart wishing tree for the first time last year and was pleased with the communitys response.

PDH Community Engagement Officer Carolyn Malseed said the wishing tree had been well supported and was for a good cause.

We had more than 100 presents donated last year, about half from staff and half from the community,Ms Malseed said.

All donated gifts were distributed by the Salvation Army.

The tree is set up at the main hospital reception area.

To participate in the appeal simply take a gift tag from the tree and specify the age and gender of a suitable recipient, and place it with your wrapped or unwrapped gift under the wishing tree. Gifts can be purchased from any retailer or be handmade.
