New Community Engagement Role at PDH

Portland District Health aims to improve its community engagement with the appointment of Carolyn Malseed to a new role.

Ms Malseed hopes to “raise the profile of a fantastic organisation” in community engagement and fund-raising role, which is shared with her existing responsibilities as manager of volunteers and planned activity group coordinator.

Ms Malseed said helping the health service to improve its engagement with the community was a privilege.

“I am very passionate and proud to be involved with PDH,” she said.

“We want to make sure that PDH is a strong part of the community and seen in a positive light. We have a great health service and want to be able to make sure we are well connected with the community.”

The role includes fund-raising, involvement in community events, liaising with local service clubs and community groups, and organising hospital activities involving the public.

Ms Malseed has worked with PDH for 11 ½ years. She has completed her Advanced Diploma in Volunteer Management and is completing her Advanced Diploma in Community Services Management and plans further study in relation to community engagement.

PDH CEO Chris Giles said the new role would help to build a bridge between the hospital and the community.

“We want to get the community involved in what is happening with their local hospital and for the hospital to be more involved in local community functions,” Ms Giles said.

“As a local hospital in a rural city we want to react to what the community wants and to do that we need good communication and engagement.”

Ms Giles said Ms Malseed was perfectly suited to the role and would be a positive ambassador for the health service.

“All of Carolyn’s roles are related to building our engagement with the community,” she said.
