Portland District Health is helping cancer patients to look good and feel better with a new support program.

On May 5 local women battling cancer came together at Active Health Portland for a special make-up and styling session designed to improve their self-esteem and confidence.

Cancer support nurse Brooke Kelly said the session helped to improve the confidence and esteem of cancer patients.

It's basically a pamper day where clients are shown and given make up and skin products and able to also fit wigs.

PDH also run a cancer support group that meets every second Friday of the month at Active Health Portland.

Ms Kelly said about nine people regularly attend the support group but there was capacity for more to become involved.

The support program is both enjoyable and beneficial, she said. It is a great opportunity to meet with other people in Portland who are going through a similar journey.

People wishing to know more about the support group can contact.
