Portland District Health’s nurses are showing another side of their talents with a new art exhibition.

The exhibition coincides with International Nurses Week between9-15 May and will feature paintings, sculpture and jewellery made by PDH nurses.

It will be held at the Julia Street Creative Space all week with an official opening at 5pm on International Nurses Day, May 12 - All welcomed to attend.

Organiser and urgent care nurse, Janina Jackson said the art would reflect the work and lives of PDH nurses.

It was our turn to organise activities for International Nurses Week so we thought we’d do something to show a different aspect of our personalities, Ms Jackson said.

An artist herself specialising in pencil drawings, Ms Jackson said it would be pleasing to show the creative side of nurses.

Many nurses turn to art for the therapeutic benefits, she said.

International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth. The theme for 2016 is Nurses: A Force for Change: Improving health systems' resilience.

We strongly encourage all staff to drop down to Julia Street Creative Space to see the talent we have within Portland District Health.

PDH will be celebrating International Nurses Day on 12 May with a BBQ lunch and a day of fun activities.

Some nurses will also don traditional uniforms and capes during the week.
