Portland District Health’s cancer wellbeing forum has helped a major regional fundraising cause.

The forum raised $445 which has been donated to the mammoth $400,000 appeal to help Ivy Steel from Hamilton to go to the United States for specialist leukaemia treatment.

PDH cancer support nurse Brooke Kelly and Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Consultant Jo Spurge donated the money to Ivy's aunt Angie Steel, who was a survivor guest speaker at the PDH forum.

Everyone agreed that it was a great initiative to support, Ms Kelly said.

Ms Kelly said the forum had been a great success and was well supported by people from Portland Warrnambool and Hamilton. There was a very positive vibe from all who attended and participated on the day, she said.

The feedback received has been excellent, people came out of the forum with a better understanding about the services and programs available locally and in surrounding areas,” she said.

We are now looking at planning another cancer forum for 2017.
