Otway Health Welcomes New President
Each year the Otway Health board elects an executive committee. For 2008 this election occurred last Thursday, where Desiree Cohen was elected as the new Board President.
Desiree moved to Apollo Bay in 2005 with her husband Tim who is the new Vicar for the Parish of the Otways. She obtained her Arts degree at Latrobe University and has raised 6 children. Desiree has worked as tutor of VCE English students and with students with disabilities and as an Integration Aide. She worked for many years as a Community Development Worker at Bellarine Community Health.
She has been a member of many community and regional committees, particularly with a volunteering focus as part of her roles as coordinator of 750 volunteers at BCH. Desiree has been involved with local ancillaries and government groups, community buses, exercise programs, lead support groups, local community events and has Health Promotion training.

In Brief
Otway Health and Community Services is one of the first three Multipurpose Services established in Victoria. We commenced operation on 1 January 1995 and provide community health, hospital, aged accommodation, child care centre, adult education, neighbourhood house, rental units for older people (Seamist Villas), palliative care, community (district) nursing, allied health and home based community care services to people residing in our catchment area.
The area covered by Otway Health and Community Services is on the coastal side of the Otway Ranges including the townships of Lavers Hill, Beech Forest and Horden Vale, and extending along the coast from Apollo Bay to Wye River. Home and Community Care Services, including home care, property maintenance and delivered meals extend even further to cover the southern part of the Colac Otway Shire.
