Launch of the Lorne 2010 Easter Appeal

Added: Thursday, 1 April 2010

Contributed by Chas Cleland

It is the time of year when we ask the community and visitors to support Lorne Community Hospital’s 2010 Easter Appeal.

The tragic events of “Black Saturday” on February 7, 2009 provided shocking evidence of the devastation fire can wreak in “at risk” communities such as ours. Much has been learnt and continues to emerge from this tragedy. This year the vision for the 2010 Easter Appeal is to focus on bushfire and heat wave prevention and preparedness. Funds raised will go towards implementing expert advice to ensure our building and grounds are bush fire ready to protect our aged care residents, patients and staff and maintain our essential asset in to the future for the local community and visitors.

We have set a target of $100,000 for the 2010 Easter Appeal. All donations are gratefully received and may be made via direct debit, credit card, cheque, money order, cash or online via the “Donate Now” button which links to a secure donation site. Credit card donations or purchases may be made over the phone or via fax using the Easter Appeal Donation Forms which you can download from this site. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.

Janelle Bryce, Chief Executive Offiicer

The 2009 Appeal supported the successful completion of a feasibility study and the initial development of plans for renovating the old accommodation unit on the Hospital site. This has been identified as one of our long term strategic priorities as it would enable a wide variety of health professionals to visit and serve the local community on a short term basis. In particular, it would assist with the provision of the 24 hour Urgent Care Service, given Lorne’s competitive accommodation market. We have recently received the feasibility study results and this is being further considered by our Hospital Board.
