 $5,000 Raised for Cancer Research
Last Thursday 11th March, some very brave souls at Otway Health kindly put their hands up to shave their luscious locks off to help raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Toni Rooke, Megan Gray, Steve Hughes, Bill ‘Mad Dog’ Fraser from the Otway Health Kitchen and Chris Frearson a volunteer at the Second Sails Opportunity Shop raised nearly $5,000 towards research of Leukaemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma.
A national target of $13.5 million was set by the organisers of the ‘World’s Greatest Shave’ with a current total of $7,685,747 so far being raised.
Toni Rooke who had shoulder length hair before the shave also donated her locks to ‘Locks of Love’ who make wigs for children with alopecia. When asked why she decided to donate her hair, Toni explained ‘A fellow staff member suggested that we put our hair to good use once it came off. So we researched on the Internet and ‘Locks of Love' came up.’
