HealthSMART, the Information and Communication Technology Strategy
The Office of Health Information Systems (OHIS) is responsible for the implementation of the HealthSMART program. OHIS is working with agencies across the sector to facilitate the implementation of new Information Communication Technology (ICT) to support priority business issues. These include Rural Alliances, Health Services and Community agencies.
OHIS is working with Alliances of Rural Hospitals and Metro Health Services to realise information management and communication technologies (IM & ICT) inititatives, which are critical to the provision of integrated effective and efficient health care.
HealthSMART, Victoria’s Whole-of-Health Information and Communication Technology Strategy, has been developed for provide direction and guidance for the development of ICT across the sector over the coming four years.
This Strategy identifies major opportunities to improve the efficiency of the Victorian public health system and the quality and safety of the care it delivers through strategic application of ICT. It puts the Victorian public health system in an excellent position to harness the power of ICT to deliver high quality health care services and respond effectively to future advances in technology.

The Office of Health Information Systems (OHIS) will be responsible for the policy and strategy relating to health ICT, specifically, the HealthSMART strategic program. OHIS is structured to align with and support the projects in the HealthSMART program.
The HealthSMART projects are managed through three functionally based portfolios: Clinical Systems, Resource Management Systems and Patient & Client Management Systems. Technical support is provided through Shared ICT Services and Systems Integration.
