Local volunteers recognised at State Award Ceremony

Recently, a group of fantastic local volunteers in ‘The Friends of Glenelg House’ were nominated for a 2010 Minister for Health Volunteer Award.

The Friends of Glenelg House are a very special group of six people who volunteer in the Residential Care facility at Casterton Memorial Hospital. Without fail this group arrives at the facility every Wednesday to donate their time to better the lives of the residents. Whether it is by playing bingo, fundraising or simply spending time with them, they always have the residents’ best interests at heart.

The ages of this group range from 50 to an astonishing 97! With most of the volunteers being from the same ‘vintage’ as the majority of the residents, it is fantastic to see them arrive each week with some on their gophers and others with walking frames in hand – they truly are an inspiration.
